If you are using Windows, this is Windows set-up problem.
If you have a recent laptop, this probably has the capability already. If you are using a desktop computer, you must check that the graphics card has two outlet ports; one connected to your normal screen, the other connected to the projector. Finally, press the Windows key (normally bottom left with the Windows logo on it) and the 'P' key simultaneously. The 'Project' panel will pop up; make sure that 'Extend' is highlighted.
You should now be working as desired.
If you are using a Mac, someone else will have to help you.
