Google Slides Issues

May 21, 2024
We're just preparing for week 3 with WorshipTools. I have 10+ years experience with ProPresenter, so expectations are high.

We're running on an 14" 2023 M2 MacBook Pro, with everything bang up to date.

One of the Presenter features that will be very useful in this new church setting is the Google Slides integration.

Right now, I'm having a couple of issues ...

1) you need to be online for it to work
2) there is a random lag 1-3 seconds when opening a Google Slides presentation (even when it has been opened before)

As a UNIX/Linux/macOS systems performance engineer with 40 years industry experience, I had rather expected this feature to use some cacheing.

i.e. I really don't expect either of the two issues above.

What am I doing wrong? Are there any plans to fix this?

Thanks,
Phil

Additional notes:

1) Even Google Slides has a "make available offline" option.
2) it would be handy for Presenter and the other tools to have on online/offline switch.

Thing is, Presenter appears to have some Google Slides cacheing (with a TTL setting).

But I find that the performance lag is very variable.

Sometimes, it takes 2-3 seconds to load a Google Slides presentation. Other times, it's almost instant.

I have gigabit FTTP at home, but it's not so fast at church. But if we're cacheing, does that matter?

Same Thing happens with me.

Another issue is that the LEFT and RIGHT cursor keys are not able to move out of a Google Slides item (unlike all other content types). To move out of a Google Slides item you have to use UP or DOWN.
