Mac and TV Screen

We have the free version of Presenter. We are able to set up songs, cue lists, etc., However, when we link the Mac with our TV screen in church we just get a mirroring, not a single slide on the TV and multiples on the Mac. We have followed the instructions that are meant to resolve this issue but without success. What are we doing wrongly, please?
